Hi Hat Restaurant
Truly a cacophony of bad taste and ugly people unmatched in a town where waistlines rarely find an end. And best of all, all the skankiness of the joint is doubled by the live karaoke going on.
You'll marvel as women the size of Mack trucks sludge their way to the mic as it Jabba the Hut was on the run. Some even have fine voices, but that is the same as telling a 400 lbs woman she has pretty hair...but she's still fat. Worth a trip to see trashy folks drunk off their asses and finding their one piece of glory in their live on their Saturday night...singing for the crowd at the Hi Hat.
Oh yeah, and the drinks are stiff as shit and cheap as hell.
The Seahorse Tavern
Stained (by what, i have no idea) cinderblock walls outline this relic from the 50's. Having undergone an uncompleted renovation between 20 and 2 years ago The Seahorse's claim to fame are its "Mullet Monday's".
Mondays have been a popular night at the tavern ever since it was socially acceptable to have a mullet, but don't tell the 30 to 40 year old staff and patrons that the short-long is out of style.
Having recently hosted a concert by metal legend Thor, this oasis in a basement regularly holds punk shows performed by folks who actually remember 1977. Read more »
Bill's Bar
I remember my dad taking me there when I was little and he place is exactly the same. Bill's bar hasn't changed in almost 35 years. Two stinky bathrooms, no food, beer can sculptures behind the bar.
The patrons (and that being kind) are a mix of druggies, drunks and derilicts.
The place usally closes around 5 am and opens around 11am. There was one time when one of the drunks had his head down on the bar, they thought he was sleeping, when they went to wake him they found that he was dead! He had been there for a couple of hours and no one noticed. The beer on tap is cheap and cold, and the bartenders friendly. A great place for people watching.
The Home Court
Plywood floors, hasn't been painted in 30 years. Duck taped barstools, never been cleaned, serves microwave popcorn, hot dogs (without a bun) and oodles of noodles. The men's bathroom is a small closet with just a urinal inside. Someone puked in the urinal and it was promptly painted over.
Airport
I need to travel again... explaining the concept of 'sleazy bars' evokes too many interesting places from the dark corners of my friends' memories. And of the cities they come from.
Airport, Am Dobben 70, Bremen. Opens at 11 at night. Beware, they already close around 5 am during the week, but in the weekends you can be surprised by how light it actually is when you get out, even in the winter. And the fresh air...!
Other places in Bremen on their way, once the memory of my friend is restored sufficiently to allow others to actually try and find the place. ("It's somewhere on a crossroads.")
Dirty Frank's bar
What can I say, this is one of the oldest Sleazy bars around the USA.
After 30 years without running water in the mens room they finally got it running a couple of years ago.
Also what other bar have you ever seen that has potholes in the floor. The rats actually once chewed throuh the beer tap lines.
And the Clientele? Well Kkid Row, Doctors, Lawyers, Professors, Students, Artist, Muscians, etc, all walks of life and at one time ME.
Commercial Hotel
The King Cheese of Sleaze?
Ah yes, for many a generation the Commercial Hotel, aka Blues on Whyte has been catering to some of the sleaziest people in Edmonton.
From their vomit-encrusted front sidewalk down to the unnaturally wet floors in the bathroom, I have yet to have the courage to set foot in a bar scuzzier than this.
I know that there's some bars downtown that just scream class with their "no knives" signs, but if ya want sleaze that's at least tolerable, the Commercial's the place to go.
I call it sleaze for the masses. Gotta love them bikers and the plethora of mullets that can be seen! Not to mention that it's open really, really late.
Plus, the glasses are dirt-ay, but do ya have a problem with that punk, do ya???

Bukowski's Liver Flush
Here’s a recipe for Bukowski’s Liver Flush, a non-alcoholic cocktail named for famous booze-hound Charles Bukowski. Juice a half-inch of ginger, followed by 2 raw medium-size scrubbed beets and half a peeled lemon. Next, juice 2 large peeled pink grapefruits and stir in 2 shakes of cayenne pepper. Add 20 drops of milk thistle tincture and pour into a tall glass.
