The Green Bar has been open twenty four hours a day, every day since 1968 and has never closed. The bartender is enclosed in a huge iron cage. To obtain a drink, one hands 18 KSh through the grill and receives one warm, 500ml bottle of Tusker Beer. (If you want a cold one ask for a 'Tusker baridi'). Read more »

De Mazzeltof
This is a bar you only pay a visit in case everything else is closed, and your beer muscle is calling steadily.
Just let us tell you about a night Pete and Fabio were on a mission (again). We tried to convince this bar girl of this standard no-fun-at all-Irish-bar O'Donnel's around the corner to keep her bar open (and taught her how to serve an "amsterdammertje") but she turned out to be a party-pooper. Fortunally, her colleague (let's call him Dwight) showed more balls and escorted us to the place where you don't want to be found dead: de Mazzeltof. Read more »
The Elbo Room
Let me say this about that.
A year or so ago, I wrote a series of blogs extolling the virtues of one of my favorite subjects - ‘Sleazy Bars’. Hanging out in a sleazy bar is like hands-on research for all the evils you hear about when you go to church. In fact, it is rumored that Moses did not receive the 10 Commandments from God during a little mountain-climbing expedition to Mount Sinai, but assembled these moral imperatives from notes taken while slamming tequila shots in a sleazy bar. De Nachtzuster
The last time I visited this place it turned out that the name was changed to the owner's name but I forgot his name ;-)
Not really important cause it's still the same old dark, smokey shithole you're looking for after hours.
The atmosphere really depends on what night you come in, could be lost drunk students, or coke sniffing criminals having a party. Read more »
De Doofpot
Since ages the closing times of bars in amsterdam are a complete disaster.
This is a problem for me as a part-time bartender because I like to sit down and have a nice drink in a bar after a long night of work.
Or tell my clientele where to go when I have to sweep the floor. So nightbars are a must. Read more »
Feuermelder
Slightly after 3:00 am i stood in front of the Feuermelder. Attached to the door is a sign stating geoffnet: Ma-Sa ab 15:00, Sontag ab 13:00. Is this a joke? Or is there a thruth to it. Intrigued, i opened the sequential doors and entered. All patrons turned around instantly and stared at me. Determined, i found a place at the bar ready to order. No barman. Read more »
am to pm
Berlins first club daily 24 houres open!
Placed underneath the S-bahn at Hackescher Markt, this looks like a real dive. It is said that the am to pm is a normal cafe during the day. It changes into a club as the pm progresses and the am begins to dawn. So the am to pm transforms itself two times a day. Read more »
RAW
This is not a review of a single bar, but more of an area I stumbled upon. The Reichsbahnausbesserungswerk (RAW) is the old repair terrain for the trains during the DDR reign. The area contains numerous run down buildings, and is completely covered by grafiti. No worry here if you shout your lungs out. Or try a bit of frustrated beer bottle smashing. Read more »

Bill's Bar
I remember my dad taking me there when I was little and he place is exactly the same. Bill's bar hasn't changed in almost 35 years. Two stinky bathrooms, no food, beer can sculptures behind the bar.
The patrons (and that being kind) are a mix of druggies, drunks and derilicts.
The place usally closes around 5 am and opens around 11am. There was one time when one of the drunks had his head down on the bar, they thought he was sleeping, when they went to wake him they found that he was dead! He had been there for a couple of hours and no one noticed. The beer on tap is cheap and cold, and the bartenders friendly. A great place for people watching.
Magasles
In the south of Hungary is a very small city called Szigetvar and somewhere there you'll maybe find the gypsy bar Magasles.
It is run by a very friendly lady called Eva and if you're lucky a very old gypsy will play the violin - like, all night long. And the nights are long in this place.
Be sure to know enough hungarian to order a beer (Sör), wine ("bor") or the locally brewed palinka (if you like a glass of glue) because it's the only language spoken there.
No dogs allowed (except mine).
Petit
The place used to be an underground bowling alley, but is now rebuild into a bar which explain it's oblong shape.
The lighting and toilets is as bad as you can expect from a sleazy bar.
It's worth a visit...
Bottomz Up
In general the atmosphere was very suspicious. Dirty business going on in the bathroom. Threesome going on in upper floors darker corners. In general all those things I might want to write but dont feel confident in doing so were there. If you can think it it was seen at Bottomz Up. Dirty dirty little girl of a bar.
The Green Parrot
The Green Parrot is off the main drag in Key West, so you have to walk a few extra blocks down a narrow dark street to get there. It's worth the walk.
A huge wooden parrot over the cash register requires "No Snivelling."
No paint on the outside or fancy remodeling on the inside, probably since it opened in 1890.
The barmaid is tougher than the average biker, there is no glass in the windows, and the parachute hanging over the bar is probably vintage WW II.
The tourists hit Sloppy Joe's, Ricks, or Captain Tony's, but the locals hang at the Parrot.
A Key West Ale on a hot tropical night in August goes down smooth and the Blues band on the small stage is blasting away.
It doesn't get any better than this.
Bloemsjen
Take everything you want to get rid off, but the bartender is nice. The prices are ok, and as far as I know they never close.
The audience consists of pimps, alcoholics, bored people, lost students, bandits and people like you and me.
The Rainbow Bar and Poker Room
From multi-millionaires to transient scum, the Rainbow has it all. The occasional good band and the always crappy karioke. It's a fact. White people cannot dance. Ya gotta love it. Puke in the johnnie crapper, all sorts of smokin', all sorts of shots, and don't forget: Peanut shells on the floor please! Break the rules and Marge (the best bartender in the West) will 86 your ass. Barely got room for the bar sized pool tables. Drop the stick, that's 50 cents. Please deposit in the black tittie mug. Have fun and watch your back.

Bukowski's Liver Flush
Here’s a recipe for Bukowski’s Liver Flush, a non-alcoholic cocktail named for famous booze-hound Charles Bukowski. Juice a half-inch of ginger, followed by 2 raw medium-size scrubbed beets and half a peeled lemon. Next, juice 2 large peeled pink grapefruits and stir in 2 shakes of cayenne pepper. Add 20 drops of milk thistle tincture and pour into a tall glass.

Paule's Metal Eck
From the outside this heavy metal bar kind of looks intimidating. I opened the door ready to meet some real hard rockers, and some loud music. Little of that really. This crowd is mixed, consisting of a lot of foreignors. In between, I encountered some local rockers and some alternative punkers. The interior is dark, some weird sculptures on the walls, a pool table, and a table for the regulars. Read more »
