Bottomz Up
Portland has a lot of bars that sell themselves as dives but a pitcher of PBR will cost you an arm and a leg.
At Bottomz Up you will pay at most $4 a pitcher and on select nights (Tues. and Thurs.) you pay $2.50. Any good sleazy bar needs some pool tables and Bottomz Up doesn't dissapoint with a few 3/4 sized tables.
There is no smoking in any bar in Maine any longer but you can be damn sure this place would thick with smoke if those dicks in power let us do our thing! The clincher for me is no white hat f*ckers dare show up and the place is owned and operated by a Vietnamese family that serves kick ass cheap noodles and other Vietnamese specialties.
Unfortunately they host karaoke night once a week and that just sucks balls (sometimes it's funny).
Frederick's Music Lounge
Smoky, cozy, cheap, basement tavern with plenty of dirty lingerie (and socks) hanging from the rafters.
Ladies room is over by the tree near the cigarette machine. Quality live music five nights a week. I go there every night. Help me.
Bottomz Up
In general the atmosphere was very suspicious. Dirty business going on in the bathroom. Threesome going on in upper floors darker corners. In general all those things I might want to write but dont feel confident in doing so were there. If you can think it it was seen at Bottomz Up. Dirty dirty little girl of a bar.
The Seaforth Inn
An old fishermans pub which looks over the local harbour. Good music and late drinking.
Many visitors and locals alike, but more men than women overall and some class sleazy lines to be heard. Good laugh.
The Gold Nugget
Your chances of getting your ass kicked here is pretty good. Opens early and closes late. Sign on the door says to leave your guns in your truck, though the rule isn't really enforced.
Bands on Friday and Saturday night. Rare to find a chick over a "5" here. This is a small town without a police department. The state police take anywhere from 15 to 45 minutes to show up for the weekend fights that happen EVERY Friday and Saturday night.
Probably one of the last bars in the entire US where you can still get a 25 cent beer. Lots of dead animals stuffed on the walls. Lots of wild clientle. You are guaranteed to leave this bar with a good story to tell your buddies - no question about it.
Underground garage
Like partying in your best friend's basement circa. 1979- probably hasen't been cleaned since then either. Come to think of it, same applies to most of the regulars.
Craby Joe's
This bar is near the corner of Main Street and 7th Street. Its in Skid Row. Its point of interest is that it is in the title montage of the film written by Charles Bukowski, "Barfly". At that time, the neon sign was still working. I'm interested in restoring the sign. There is no "bartime" at this bar. The stay open right up to 2:00 AM, at which time everyone is pushed out the door.

Blue Gator Saloon
Blue Gator Saloon is a hangout for shipyard and offshore workers at the Port of Iberia in New Iberia,Louisiana
The beer is stored in portable coolers, the jukebox only has one volume setting,(high),the building is basically a shack with fake wood paneling adorning the walls. The restrooms can be used as a replacement for capital punishment.
Longneck bottles of beer are considered a top shelf extravagance. Two pool tables keep patrons entertained whether they are playing or just watching the action. The bar tender lives next to the bar in an old mobile home, and if you are a regular and need a little hair of the dog, you can knock on his door early in the morning and he'll open the bar for you.
Snake-n-Jakes Christmas Club Lounge
An old friend of mine lived across the street from this place and refused to go in.
So when I visited I dragged him in after a Widespread Panic show, LATE NIGHT.
Keep in mind, this place usually does not open until around midnight, and really gets hoppin' around 6-7am. S-n-J's is located in Uptown on Oak off of Carollton.
Most cab drivers don't even know where it is and it is primarily a local's joint. It's a tiny, ramshackle looking place with a very large south pacific man minding the door. Once you enter, it is a low ceiling and candle light only.
Drinks are cheap and poured stiff. Read more »
Barfly
The offhandedly scruffy facade is covered with posters of upcoming appearances. The clientele consists of all ages, from teens to 75 years old, A good amount of regular to be found at any time of day or night. They crowd around the small but free pool table in front and spill out onto the sidewalk. Beer and shooters (Jamesons and Jaegermeister) are the mood-elevator of choice; music is unpredictable. Live music almost every night, sets are mostly starting at around 11PM. Toilets are cleaner now than they used to be, but still....
Montreal rated the bar "Best Sleaze Dive" in 2006:

Hotel Esplanada
Dili is quite a backwater and the Hotel Esplanada helps a lot. Hotel Esplanada is a two story building with the entire top floor an open air bar. That is better than it sounds since local mosquitos carry dengue fever and malaria so bring your repellant. Still, its a great place to see the expat community and UN workers. The Hotel Espalanada is one the waterfront in Dili, not too far from the Korean Embassy. There are no identifiable street numbers there nor many street names so this will have to do. The sea view is worth it and the company is great.
Johnny Volt says check it out.
Ribeirinha
This place has been visited by me and my girlfriend in 1999. The small cafe is situated in what you might call an alley rather than a street, and has a little terras of aproximately two to three tables. You can find the bar close to the river Douro in the area called Ribeira, which is the centre of the touristical city. With your back to the city, you take the last street on your right from the main square along the riverbank (Praca da Ribeira). This street has a shallow slope, and after several tens of meters you can find the Ribeirinha. Read more »
The Windsor
If your scared of entering a dark dingy place that may or may not have undesirables loitering around the front, no problem. Once your in the front doors keep your back to the wall. I've never seen anything go down, but you may feel safe for your first few visits.
Cheap beer and great jazz...nice sacrafice. Impress your new girlfriend and show her how brave you are!
Come on down. Land of the free and home of the drunk.
PS-must get along well with Natives.
Nelson's
nelson's dance palace.
wooden schack on the slopes of town down to the river. he has dancing vibes when a school bus of young students come visit the town. but mostly there are 5 local drunks at the bar with guns on them.
if it is closed just yell at the gate and tell them you are william from holland. he will open up and turn some lights on, beware you will be paying for all the beers served!!!
no sweat!! there is no cover charge!!!
